Structural Engineering

We are licensed to perform structural engineering throughout the eastern United States, and can become licensed in other states when necessary. We work on projects big and small, but really enjoy the difficult ones. Our team incorporates our mission of applying BIM (Building Information Modeling) to every project, and was a very early adopter in the transition to a 3D model-based approach to design and construction.

Our process allows us to streamline the routine, and invest our knowledge in solving the unique issues your project presents. While we love to provide structural engineering on your project, what really gets us fired up is when we can integrate it with our other services such as BIM and structural special inspections.

Building Information Modeling (BIM)

We have incorporated BIM into every project that has gone out the door for more than 10 years – since it was barely a buzzword.  We utilize a full suite of BIM software (Autodesk Revit® Software and Tekla® Structures Software) for government agencies, architectural firms, engineering consultants, building owners, general contractors, trade or subcontractors, and facility managers. We have modeled and constructed hundreds of buildings, modeled buildings for clients after they were built, and provided modeling services to trade contractors who are being required to submit data on BIM projects.

BIM allows us to more effectively communicate with clients, other designers, and the people who will build the structures. It’s fundamentally a better way to work – it’s visual, it’s more intuitive, and it ensures a better end result, while omitting costly and time-consuming project errors.

Laser Scanning

Ours is a business driven by data, and laser scanning gives us an effective tool for collecting precise information. It takes the guesswork out of working on existing buildings. The world is not straight, square, or plumb, so why design that way and have to adjust later? Laser scanning allows us to show, rather than approximate, saving time and money for our clients in the process.

Forensic Engineering

Our forensic work ranges from structural adequacy assessments of historic (or otherwise aged) structures, failure investigations, expert witness testimony, and even the garden variety “Is that crack in my wall something to worry about?”

While we enjoy designing and detailing buildings, our experience with multiple building types and structural systems means we can answer your “how, what, and why” questions relating to your building. We enjoy the challenge of providing the answers about feasibility, building additions, explaining undesirable building shifting or movement, and getting to the bottom of any structural failures.

Steel Connection Engineering

Our staff has provided connection engineering services for more than 10 years on projects as large as 7,000 tons. We’ve developed in-house AISC-compliant steel design software that enables us to provide engineering services efficiently and cost effectively while incorporating your shop preferences. We speak the language, and can take unbuildable situations and turn them into projects everyone on the team is happy with.

Our team produces clean and organized submittal packages in tabular format with standard Word document sample calculations that can be sent ahead of time to speed the approval process. We also generate concise and easy-to-follow “detailer packages” that contain all of the information a detailer would need. Our team holds professional licenses in over a dozen states, and maintains NCEES records for connection design engineers to become licensed quickly if required.

Structural Special Inspections

As part of the process of constructing a building, inspections of the structure provide the assurance of a correctly built and code-compliant project. These inspections provide needed assurance both for the owner, who expects their project to be safe, as well as the builder, who can rely on independent verification that they have fulfilled their obligation to their client.

As structural engineers, Park Structural Design and Consulting is uniquely positioned to provide these services with our detailed and extensive knowledge of all potential building systems, and can back up our work with a professional seal.
